Sister Elraine Figarette is the female protagonist of this story. Also known as "Ellie". Sister Elraine is one of the traveling Sisters. Her job is to treat the fatal illness often referred as "Troi". Once infected with Troi, the disease begins to make the body produce poison that, once enough of it has accumulated, causes that person's body to go into a seizure and disappear. When Sisters treat a patient they absorb the poison out of their body and take it into their own, shortening their lives as a result. Because of this Elraine went into a seizure, however when Kiri, an ordinary spiky-haired boy, touched her hand the seizure went away. So then, if Kiri ever were to let go of Elraine's hand, Elraine would have a seizure and die
