blog: is it really necessary?

One of the subgroups that does Kure-Nai has started removing the opening and ending sections of the episodes they release for this series as of episode 6. Now, they are not the first group to do this.. and I can see it making sense back in the day, but when 500gb HDs are now like 80-100 USD is it really necessary? If anything, it's more of a hassle than anything else. Discuss if you want, or just consider this an advisory to get the OP and ED files if you want to watch 6+ in the normal way. Your media player should be able to handle it ;) If not, get CCCP or K-Lite. Cheers.

You lost me at the cost of HDs.

And most people have CCCP already... Only phool would bother searching through all those codecs.

Hopefully they are just experimenting and will revert back soon. Historically, fansub groups that have done this, have only done so once or twice, and the reason they did so was because the distro volume was so high their petty servers couldn't handle the distributed-volume and bandwidth costs relative to their donation-supported "income." At least that's my thought on the issue.

on the other hand,by removing the OP and the ED they get to encode the episode in higher quality(that was noticeable,i've watched it) with smaller size.
and for those who loves to collect OP/ED videos, they dont have to bother splitting the video file just to separate the ED/OP themselves.
well,i dont really have any problem with this issue.
i usually just skip the OP/ED unless the theme songs are great

You know that's probably true... now that I think about it. I probably would have enjoyed Gundam 00 stored on both this site and my personal collection if it wasn't so big in size. For me personally I almost never watch the OP/EDs more than once. AND YET, I have a thing called Cable/DSL/etc. that lets me dl things RLY FAST YO. xD

but you know, there are ISPs that have download quota limit.
just like mine here in Aussie ( 30 GB peak/60 GB off-peak)
usage over the limit will get my connection shaped to 64k
which is sucks!
though the reduce in video size might not look that significant,
but it actually helps people like me who have 20 episodes of anime to download every week (reduced in quota usage lol)

Well, its really a matter of preference, and size. If there is a long broadcast along the op/ed credits, then yes I could see the point in just using one set that are uninterrupted. Also for size, if you can't handle distro'ing that small amount of size, with the powerhouse(s) that are some fansubs, you can fail easily if you aren't top notch. It can save time, but for those that multitask, wouldn't it sap more of your computer's resources to keep recognizing those files?

you're an idiot, like always.

ORDERED CHAPTERS. heard of it? learn it.

WHY waste 100MB on the OP in every freaking episode?

I agree with DrX. 100mb op + 20mb ed x let's say 26 eps = ~3gb
If all 150+ shows on my computer had even a 75mb OP+ED size, that would save me at least 250gb. ^_^

god damn you noobie... I knew that already. My point is that I have enough space in my system that it doesn't matter, and my internet cap is high enough that it doesn't matter. As a result, I just dont care.. and this is true for a lot of other people too.

Not all of them certainly, but when you get as many emails as I do about how people cant play a vid or get a sub (because they dont have the right codec) I am led to believe the community as a whole has not progressed far enough that CCCP or Klite or HD-compatible systems are the norm. Infact the request for XviDs are still pretty high now aren't they.

You two are always so simple. You know this as well as I do, yet you try to talk as if I've somehow missed something obvious. It's obvious to US, not to THEM. Noobs.

In my opinion, the openings and endings are annoying for the most part, but not having them takes away from the anime, so I don't mind them.

i disagree, like Bleach for example, the best thing in it is the OP and ED, specially Ichiren No Hana, nice OP.

The HD space isn't the issue at all, it is the DL speed/bandwidth issue.

My theoretical DL speed is 24MBps, Otakuworks seldom pushes it out as fast as 150KBps per file.
Additionally, my ISP (Comcast), now has a monthly cap in total data transfers allowed before they hit you with a extra fee. Now, few are the monthes I am likely to hit 250gb UL/DL, but it HAS happened.

So trimming 100mb off of a file means both that the file will DL faster, after the first, and that it will impose less of a load towards all side bandwidth limits.

Note that this cut of the OP/ED also resulted in a higher bitrate for the episode itself, thus we are getting higher quality at a lower size.

The OP 4 kurenai looks weird, so i guess its not that much of an impact 2 most ppl. But the song is great, so it'll be kinda sad 2 miss it.

I dont think it really matters unless the anime is one where the op/ed changes every time (the animation not the song) so unless its one of those its ok as long as they have the first ep with the op/ed.
