I've been running out of space on my computer lately, as even with 2tb of storage space, downloading the weekly episodes of ~30 anime results in ~6gb of space taken up every week, and that simply adds up. More after the jump.
Ever since I started downloading anime about 3 years ago, I haven't ever deleted anything. At first it was because I downloaded far more than I could watch, and thus bought additional harddrives to store it all. That resulted in me having loads of space and not needing to delete anything. This then turned into me having a fairly large anime library, and I began to (sadly) fantasize about some day when I would be able to impress people with my library of anime... *pose*... I then bought more and more harddrive space, which only fueled my growing need to amass a large collection.

To this day I've probably watched about 15 series in their entirety. I have over 150 stored on my computer (of course, I have purchased the DVDs of all these shows).
Recently, though, I've been watching current shows, meaning that every week I have ~30 episodes that I download/watch. Not all of these are incredibly amazing omgarchive shows, though. That said, I am still caught up in the whole "hi this is my library of every anime ever created" idea.
This brings me to a decision; do I start deleting the "lackluster" shows after I've watched them, and save only the good ones that I might actually have a chance of wanting to show someone some day... -OR- do I continue to archive everything and buy more and more harddrives to fuel my addiction? To me this is the same thing as amassing a library of books only to throw them out once I've read them.

How about you? Do you watch & delete? Do you keep some? All? Do you burn stuff to DVDs?

I also want to "collect" anime, but I don't have even close to the amount of space that you have so I've been forced to delete alot of them. What I did was keep the ones that I really liked, and delete some of the others.

But I can never bring myself to delete most of them lol D:

Continue to archive...some day you will watch it all and become a anime master, millions of people will ask you what to watch...or not..Hay if you can fund your habit go for it,if not don't. Sometimes i think in terms of money it give's you a different viewpoint in somecases.

I'm a deleter, I only have 300 GB to work with (I usually keep the last episode I watched as a bookmark for the never ending series') . Though, I still have a hard time deleting shows I really enjoyed like Lovely Complex (still haven't deleted School Days, I might have to burn it.). But usually, when I finish a series, I'm done with it... I rarely watch it again. And if I absolutely HAVE to get my fix, I'll redownload it.

hmm everyone I know vastly does things differently when it comes to stuff like this. But basically it really comes down to you.

If you will even consider re-watching anime then you should keep it. keep it in any container. Dvd/hd doesn't matter.

If you will prolly never re-watch it then consider deleting it. Otherwise you're just being a pack rat.

On the other hand, if money is no issue and the price of hd's go down while the specs go up then carry on good sir, carry on.

:stupid:

im doing the same
i only keep anime that i considered worth re-watching or popular titles (just to follow the trend)

but looks like we have the same interest
i once had that "anime library" idea too
but money issue came as the wall

Right now, I have a 320GB HDD in my iMac, as well as a Lacie 500GB external. Right now, I have 465GB left in my external, so I might start backing up animes I download to there. That way running out of room on my iMac won't be an issue. I'm not sure how much more i'll be downloading though, but I will keep everything I download. I've already started my complete Gundam DVD collection, but got a fars way to go.

This burn everything to DVD idea is quite novel. It's also possible that CD's might be more cost effective, but I'm too lazy to check.
